JIANGXI, China - “As I opened the Bible resources, I felt a surge of gratitude towards God. Being equipped for my preaching and teaching ministry is crucial, and I am eager to make a meaningful impact and bear fruit for God's kingdom,” so shared Luo Zhuoyuan, a recent graduate of Jiangxi Bible School. She was full of gratitude for the Bible resources provided by her Bible School with support from the United Bible Societies (UBS).
Finding Somebody Greater than Herself
Luo’s journey to faith and ministry began in 2003 when she attended church for the first time with a friend. The old church was a contrast with the bustling city outside. It was there that she found solace in the heartfelt words of the preacher and the soothing hymns of the choir. “Jesus loves me” - these simple but powerful words, filled the void in her heart, and she knew that Jesus was the one she had been longing for - Somebody greater than herself. She had felt like a floating duckweed, rootless and alone. Coupled with challenges in relationships and health, she was dissatisfied with her life, and no matter how hard she tried, she felt empty deep within. But now with the love of Jesus in her heart, she finally felt grounded and secure.
The warmth and love that Luo experienced from the Christian community deeply touched her heart, and she found a place she could call home. The church became her refuge, and she longed to listen to the sermons every Sunday. Even though she did not understand everything at that time, she was often inspired.
Finding Her Calling
A year later, Luo was baptized and became a follower of Christ. She enjoyed the fellowship and began serving in the choir and worship ministry. It was her way of expressing love to the Lord and to fellow believers. Luo, however, yearned for a deeper understanding of the Bible. When there was an opportunity to enroll at Jiangxi Bible School, without hesitation, she applied and was accepted.
“Throughout my three-year study at the Bible School, I was blessed with guidance from the pastors and elders who helped me gain a deeper understanding of biblical truths and the development of God’s church," Luo said. This learning journey enabled Luo to become a soldier of Christ, empowering her, when she faced challenges, to press on towards the goal and win the prize for which God has called her (Phil. 3:14).
Luo also said, "I feel more equipped to go out into the world and bear fruit - fruit that will last. I am grateful for this gift of love, and I know that it will make a difference in the lives of many."
On the Bible resources that she has received - Chinese Study Bible, Topical Analysis of the Bible, New Bible Commentary, and the two-volume Tien Dao Commentary on the Gospel of John - Luo shared that they have given her a deeper understanding of the Lord’s teachings and helped her to share biblical truths more effectively." Luo also said, "I feel more equipped to go out into the world and bear fruit - fruit that will last. I am grateful for this gift of love, and I know that it will make a difference in the lives of many."
Expressing her appreciation, Luo added, "My heart is overflowing with gratitude. I am deeply thankful for the immense support and love that I have received from UBS and their supporters. Through their kindness, I have experienced the constant care and guidance of our Heavenly Father."
