I was baptized as a Catholic when I was a baby. My grandfather was a devout Catholic and he led our entire family to embrace the Catholic faith. Growing up as a Catholic did not necessary mean that I was strong in my faith then. It was during the time of the Cultural Revolution when I was only 6 years old that my young faith in God slowly took root. During those tumultuous times, all religious activities were conducted behind closed doors. Churches were shut and many believers in my hometown had to pray secretly at home. That was what my family did as we gathered for our prayer time daily: my grandfather would lead the prayer time, but not before ensuring that our doors are shut tight and locked. Read more [...]

My favorite verse in the Bible is found in Psalm 131:2, “Instead I am content and at peace. As a child lies quietly in its mother’s arms, so my heart is quiet within me.” (GNT) I like to use this Psalm to help me in my prayers. In His presence, I come before Him as His child, dedicated to Him and trusting Him. Family Devotion The Bible has already started its work in me since I was a child. My forefathers were all Catholics, so my family has a strong Catholic background. As far as I can remember, when I was a child, my parents had been extremely concerned about my spiritual growth. SHANDONG - I always felt that there were never enough Bibles in the churches in China. I grew up in a village church in Shandong province. More than 20 years ago, there were not more than 20 Catholic Bibles shared among the 500-600 parish members. In those days, church members would read the Bible aloud through the amplifiers for the rest of the congregation to listen to God’s Word. A Bible, to me, was a rare and precious commodity.
