The following is an extract from an interview with the Honorary President of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and Bishops’ Conference of the Catholic Church in China, Bishop Aloysius Jin Luxian, age 95, from the Shanghai Catholic Diocese. Bishop Jin is a prominent Chinese Church leader. God’s Word is to me like the lamp unto my feet and the bread of my life; the Bible is the illuminating lamp which guides my life. I come from a family who has been Catholics for many generations. My grandfather and parents themselves were Catholics. I have been a Catholic even before I was weaned. Since young, I have been reading the Bible. I read it every day when I entered the monastery and the Society of Jesuit. I love the Bible, especially the Gospel of John. Read more [...]

The day 20 October 2011 marked a new milestone for UBS partnership ministry in China. An inaugural seminar entitled “The Role of Christianity in Modern China: The Bible in China” was jointly organized by The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) and Centre for Studies of Religion and Culture, with the support of British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) and United Bible Societies (UBS). Professor Yan Kejia, Director of Institute of Religious Studies with SASS, in his Opening Ceremony speech warmly welcomed Archbishop John Chew, Vice President of UBS, Mr David Smith, International Programme Manager of BFBS and Rev. “O God, please help me to have Paul’s purity, Deborah’s praise, Abraham’s faith, Esther’s courage, Solomon’s wisdom, Ruth’s loyalty, Paul and Silas’ joy, Mary and Joseph’s love, Noah’s thanksgiving, Moses’ willingness to serve…..” prayed 7 year old Guo softly after attending a 3-month Sunday School for children organized by churches in Henan Province.
