“I am not surprised by the success of Amity Press -- it is meeting a need that is recognized in a society undergoing a remarkable transformation,” remarked Mr Stephen Green, Group Chairman of Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) at Nanjing’s Amity Printing Company on 24 March 2010. Mr Green and his wife, Jay, were accompanied by Mr James Catford, the Group Chief Executive of British and Foreign Bible Societies (BFBS) and Ms Sue Wilmot, Key Relationships Manager of BFBS. They were welcomed by Mr Qiu Zhonghui, the Board Chairman of Amity Printing Company, who led them in a tour of the printing facility. The Visually Impaired in China Needs Chinese Braille Bibles

Zhang Madam Zhang is a visually impaired person. She also has a weak heart and getting out of bed proved to be difficult at times. Her husband is mentally disabled. They do not have any children. She came to know the Lord in March 2000 and later joined a fellowship for the visually impaired in Harbin City that same year. She was baptized in 2008. Despite facing difficulties in living each day, Madam Zhang still attends church faithfully. She shares that the portion of Scripture that is especially dear to her is Psalms 23 because she needed the strength to see her through each day.Full of trust in the Lord, she says with a smile, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. God promises to give strength. Every time I come across these verses, I would pray that God gives me strength and grant me good health because I have heart illnesses. Every time I read this verse, I am filled with joy because of His promises.” Read more [...]

The first Mandarin Braille Bible published in China after the Cultural Revolution, was produced in 1996 by Amity Printing Company (APC) in Nanjing. Ma Wei, a visually impaired staff at APC, was there in 1995 helping to typeset and proofread the Braille Bible. His conversion story was featured in February 2003 UBS World Report where he shared, “God guided me to the place where Scriptures for the blind are printed so that I could encounter His Word. This has opened my heart to receive Christ Jesus as my Savior and to become a child of God.” In the last 6 years, God has blessed him beyond his imagination while working at APC. He is currently assisting in the production of the very Braille Bible he has helped put together.
