The following is an extract from an interview with the Honorary President of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and Bishops’ Conference of the Catholic Church in China, Bishop Aloysius Jin Luxian, age 95, from the Shanghai Catholic Diocese. Bishop Jin is a prominent Chinese Church leader. God’s Word is to me like the lamp unto my feet and the bread of my life; the Bible is the illuminating lamp which guides my life. I come from a family who has been Catholics for many generations. My grandfather and parents themselves were Catholics. I have been a Catholic even before I was weaned. In China, it is the tradition for people to hang banners on both sides of their doors at Spring Festival. The banners are usually red – a colour thought to bring good fortune – and are covered with so-called ‘lucky’ words like ‘prosperity’, ‘wealth’, and ‘good health’. Some Chinese Christians are using this tradition as a very visible way of proclaiming their faith. Their banners would read "Everlasting love of God"; " Jesus' love endures forever" etc. Read more [...]

From September 16th to 20th, I, a 71 year-old, had the privilege of participating in a Bible Distribution Trip to China organized by the Bible Society of Singapore. Our mission was to distribute Bibles to various churches in the Yunnan mountainous area in China. Although our mission was tough, our work was a journey where we experienced God’s Grace daily. A brother-in-Christ asked me, “What were your thoughts on the trip?” My reply was, ‘I received much more than what I gave!” We went to Zhaotong City which was located in the heart of the northern Yunnan plateau, a gathering place for the Miao minority group.
